This immensely popular Zee TV drama series is a tribute to the girls who are discriminated against by their own families. 'Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann’ is the story of a Gujarati family which still believes that society can be run and governed by men only. It is a family in which girls are considered to be 'paraaya dhan', to be brought up and sent to their in-laws' families where another set of men govern them throughout their lives.
Suryakant Garodia is a well-known and respected businessman who is one of the richest individuals in town. He longs for a son but has four daughters from his wife Savitri. Worried about the continuity of his clan, he weds Menaka. His mother and sisters are pleased and Savitri is forced to accept Menaka into her life. Very soon, Menaka delivers a son - Yuvraj - and Suryakant is euphoric. The girls and Savitri, their needs and wishes are relegated to the background. ‘Betiyann’ is all about the struggle of these four girls who, along with their wronged mother, fight for their right to be treated fairly.
