Marma Desam

'Marma Desam', a nail-biting mystery thriller, makes the audience sit on the edge of the chair. This spine-chilling series takes you into the world of myths and spiritual beliefs. Several characters try to solve the mystery of a place named Siddharpatti. The place seems to hold many a secret and untold story. Each episode deepens this mystery and ultimately, the revelations appear one by one.

The first episode is a curtain raiser. It captures many mysterious events that have taken place at different times in the small village of Sidharpatti. The happenings are mindboggling, to say the least..

Three friends of Lalitha, the daughter of the temple priest Bhattar, come to visit the village Sidharpatti. As she shows them around the village and the temple, many do's and dont's are revealed. A strict rule is enforced that after sunset, no one is allowed to remain inside the temple. However, by mistake, a small child gets trapped inside. Pasupathy, the dumb assistant of Bhattar, rushes in to save the child, but does not come out. Later, he is found dead by Lalitha's brother, Mani Sundaram.

Mani Sundaram reaches the Sanctum Sanctorum and is stunned to see the mouth of the idol full of blood. Does this prove that the God has killed Pashupathy? The mystery seems to deepen. Annamalai, the head of the village, is summoned . He insists on having a post mortem done and calls the police. The police officer, Subramaniam,challenges the villagers and stays alone in the temple the whole night. Next morning, the villagers are amazed to find him completely in one piece. Afterwards, what happens to the police officer?

Chettiar, the owner of the temple who lives in the city, comes to the village upon hearing the news of the two deaths. In the garland of the lord, Bhattar finds a palm leaf. In it is clearly inscribed that no new inmates should be allowed in the village. In case they do not abide by this rule, then the new entrant will lose his or her sanity. Meanwhile, the dumb sage is seen collecting snake venom in a bottle. Reason?

Bhattar's daughter Lalitha comes across a new person in the village, who is mentally disturbed. She admits him in the ashram of the dumb sage, much to the chagrin of her father. Next day, a snake bites her and she is almost on her death bed. Is this a punishment for not abiding by the rules?

Famous psychiatrist Kalyanasundaram, who is Prasad 's father, is the new inmate whom Lalitha gets admitted to the ashram. Prasad is shocked to learn this. Both Mani and Prasad decide to join hands to unravel the mystery surrounding the temple. They go in the dead of the night following the dumb sage, but lose his trail after some time. Prasad falls into a deep pit. Is this the wrath of the Almighty?

Mani saves Prasad from the pit, but he has sprained his hand. The dumb sage arrives there and looks into Prasad's eyes. Prasad becomes immovable. Has he been hypnotised? The sage rubs some potion in his hand and he stops feeling any pain. What is the mystery surrounding the dumb sage?

Lalitha and Prasad go to the temple and Prasad declares his love for her. On their way back, they meet Dr. Vishwaram, an assistant of Prasad's father. He insists on taking back Dr. Kalyanasundaram, but is denied entry in the ashram. He is a chain-smoker and his behaviour is very strange. He insists on moving out of the village with Prasad. But Lalitha reveals a big secret and Prasad is forced to stay back for some more days. What is the secret?

Lalitha shows a palm leaf in which is stated that due to Bhattar's unrelenting faith in the Lord, he will be given a golden coin every month. She requests Prasad to wait for three days within which the fifth coin would be received. Dr. Vishwaram recalls the insults heaped on him by Dr. Kalyanasundaram on various ocassions. He wreaks vengenace by supplying drugs to a patient, thereby tarnishing the image of the doctor. Is he responsible for the present state of Dr. Kalyanasundaram?

Dr. Kalyanasundaram's ego is hurt and he loses his mental balance when the minister insists on taking away his son to Sidharpatti for treatment. Dr. Vishwaram feels victorious. When the forest-dwellers go into the forest to get honey from a honey comb, a bear almost kills the leader of the gang. Dr. Vishwaram states that the man cannot be cured, but the dumb sage comes there in the nick of the time and saves the person. Prasad gives an ultimatum to the doctor to leave the village immediately.

Dr. Vishwaram talks to the village doctor, Ramaratnam. Slowly, Ramaratnam finds out what is bugging the doctor. Mani talsk about his future plans to Prasad. On their way, they see Antony stealthily walking towards the village church. But both are unable to find him in the church. Where has he vanished?

This episode leaves one with many a question unanswered. Abiding by the ultimatum given by Prasad, Dr. Vishwaram leaves the village. On the way, Agnirasu asks him for a lift. He collects all the information from the doctor. On reaching Agnirasu's house, the doctor is shocked to see the killer dog being petted by Agnirasu. Is Agnirasu the culprit? Dr. Kalyana Sundaram manages to leave the ashram and reaches the temple, but gets scared on seeing the Lord. Why? It is Bhattar's day to receive the golden coin. Will he get it?
