Kavita, who lives in Calcutta, gets the shocking message that her mother Gomathy, an honest and upright I.A.S. officer, has died in a freak accident. Upon coming home for her mother’s funeral, she finds her sister Divya in deep depression. Kavita and her fiance Shyam try to help Divya fight the depression and come out of it. However, they end up being embroiled in the search for the person responsible for Gomathy’s death. Was it really a freak accident as they were told? Will the sisters succeed in finding out the truth?
The first episode captures the struggle of Divya trying to come to terms with the fact that her loving mother Gomathy, an honest I.A.S. officer, is no more. She recalls her mother playing the veena and a few loving conversations she had with her. Divya seems to be the most favourite child in the family which also includes her sister and her brother. Her siter Kavitha wants Divya to stop acting strangely and accept the fact.
Divya is taken to a psychiatrist and it is revealed in the session that she does not want to acknowledge her mother's death. She lives in a surreal world, imagining her mother to be still alive. Also, she accuses all the others as being responsible for her mother's death. Kavita invites her brother Raju and sister-in-law Uma for a feast and suggests that they take Divya with them for a change. However, the conversation takes a totally different turn, resulting in both of them leaving the house in a huff.
This episode makes one wonder whether Gomathy's death was really an accident. Kavitha feels that her mother was too prefect a lady a lady who would not lose concentration while driving. Kavitha's fiance Shyam sees an obituary of Gomathy, written by one Shankar. Upon questioning Lakshmi, their cook, they learn the unbelievable truth that Shankar was Gomathy's past lover. What other skeletons are going to tumble out of the cupboard?
Divya's strange behavior continues. She talks to her mother's colleague Ganesan who reveals about contractor Muthuswamy bagging the contract by bribing Raju with ten lakh rupees. Upon learning this, Gomathy threatens to withdraw the contract and take criminal action against both, her son and Muthuswamy. Muthuswasmy threatens her with dire consequences. Was he responsible for the accident? Divya wants Kavitha to drop these investigations, as she believes that her mother's death was only an accident. Was it really?
This episode sees one more person in the doubtful list. Kavitha goes to meet one Mahadevan who had an old enmity with Gomathy. Police constable Muralidharan explains them the situation which led them to catch Mahadevan. Did Gomathys's honesty earn her too many enemies?
This episode captures the underlying love between the sisters. Divya is so obsessed with her mother that she dresses up like her and plays the veena. Kavitha decides to drop everything and go with Shyam and Divya to Calcutta. Kavitha clears another doubt of hers, which again throws light on Gomathy's straightforwardness. Meanwhile, Divya's lover Tarun comes to meet them with his father Jayachandran who advises Kavitha to leave Divya behind. Why?
The trio - Kavitha, Shyam and Divya - go to Raju's house to bid him farewell. Divya refuses to go in. There, they meet contractor Muthuswamy. Here too, Divya gets a clean chit about her mother.On their way, they meet Shankar and they realise her greatness. So, after all, was it only a freak accident?
Divya is disturbed and slashes her wrist. She climbs on the terrace and threatens to jump off. On probing further, she confesses that it is she who is really responsible for her mother's death. She makes a clean breast of her mistakes, which is really very shocking indeed. What is it?
Divya, the last child of the house and a pet of her mother Gomathy, shocks everyone with her confessions. Falling a prey to her boyfriend Tarun's fancies, she starts following the path shown by him - a path dreaded by one and all and an addiction which leads to permanant disaster. Gomathy is devastated upon learning this and Divya feels that she has betrayed her mother's faith in her. She believes that it is this disturbance that must have caused the accident. Is it really so or is there another factor which caused the accident?
The final episode exposes the people really responsible for Gomathy's death. This revelation will truly shock the viewers. Divya realises her mistakes. Both Kavitha and Shyam with their love and understanding bring her out of her guilt complex. Tarun pleads with Divya to excuse him and Divya, with her new found maturity, turns her back on him. The family of Gomathy are happy once again, having solved the mystery of their mother's death.
