'Sanjivani - A Medical Boon' is a hospital drama. The story revolves around four interns - Rahul, Juhi, Simran and Omi - and their tenure at Sanjivani Hospital. Their young lives are high on passion, ideals and some amount of naiveté about the profession they have chosen. 'Sanjivani' is about Rahul and Juhi, whom many believe will get married in the future. It is about the relationship between Rahul and his father, Dr. Yash Raj. It is also about the rancor between Rahul and Simran, who are childhood friends. The serial portrays doctors who are often called 'miracle workers', but who are only humans - having families, lives and emotions of their own.
It is the first day of duty for four interns - Dr.Rahul, Dr. Simran, Dr. Omi and Dr. Juhi - at Sanjivani Hospital. There is hustle and bustle in the homes of all four. Juhi reaches the hospital late on her very first day and Dr. Shashank reprimands her. Rahul and Juhi have a nasty argument, again on the first day itself. Rahul gets angry and challenges her that she will be out of Sanjivani within a few days. Juhi accepts the challenge.
Juhi is pleasantly surprised upon learning that Dr. Mehra is Rahul's father. Rahul does not leave any stone unturned in harassing Juhi to leave the hospital. Juhi complains to Dr. Shashank about Rahul and his pranks and Rahul is suspended. Dr. Shashank and a senior doctor have an argument over a patient who is in a serious condition. Dr. Shashank luckily manages to save the patient.
Juhi feels remorseful when she realises that she is the one responsible for Rahul's suspension. Dr. Smriti takes charge as the resident gynaecologist at Sanjivani. Omi and Simran pledge to help Rahul hide the news of his suspension from his parents. The interns find their senior doctors, Dr. Shashank and Dr. Smriti, good examples to idolize. Rahul is summoned to a board meeting where Dr. Shashank is surprised to see him. Wasn't he expelled for the day?
Dr. Mehra proudly introduces his son, Rahul, at the board meeting. He is unaware of Rahul's suspension order. Dr. Smriti is happy, as a critical case has been resolved in time. Rahul's sister-in-law learns of his lackadaisical attitude to his career and is worried. Her worries are baseless as Rahul proves himself by handling a very complex case that involved a mentally unstable patient kidnapping a newborn baby.
A patient, Nisha, dies during childbirth after giving birth to a newborn baby girl. Smriti and Juhi are confronted with a major problem when Nisha's mother-in-law refuses to accept the baby. Dr. Mehra's close friend suffers from lung cancer but he refuses treatment as he does not want to reveal his health condition to his wife. Nisha's baby is orphaned and stays unclaimed at the hospital. Roshni, Smriti's patient who had just lost her newborn baby, craves for a baby and Smriti decides to bring the two together. Will her seniors allow her to do so?
Omi tries to patch up the differences between Juhi and Rahul. Dr. Shashank sends Juhi and Rahul to a medical camp set up by Sanjivani. Dr. Simran is disappointed. Rahul tries to patch up with Juhi but she is obstinate. Omi comes across patients of different mindsets and he is amused. As interns, Juhi and Rahul also come across patients in the medical camp who test their patience beyond limit.
Simran chooses to change her profession as Dr. Shashank had reprimanded her for being reckless. Dr. Shashank handles a very complicated case but has to withstand the worst for not giving importance to some heavyweights. The perpetrator of an accident case compensates the victim due to the efforts of Dr. Shashank.
Rahul has organized a surprise party for Simran. Juhi anticipates Rahul's arrival as Rahul had announced that he will be coming in a fancy dress at the party. Juhi dresses up as Anarkali and decides to surprise Rahul with her get-up. Rahul calls off the fancy dress party, but deliberately keeps Juhi in the dark. He plans to mock her in front of everyone when she comes decked up for the party. The guests have a hearty laugh when Juhi comes decked up as Anarkali. Omi and Simran are not impressed.
Rahul feels embarrassed with his behavior and tries calling up Juhi but her aunt. He does not succeed. Juhi is disheartened with herself and thinks of going back to her hometown, Simla. The hospital witnesses cases of life and death everyday and today is no different. Dr. Madhavi loses her patient, Arzoo and her mother is inconsolable. A new born baby is named Arzoo in her honor. Simran, Rahul and Omi feel that Juhi may not return to college. She proves them wrong. Not only does she return but handles a very difficult case with a passion.
The doctors have a field day in office. Once again, this episode shows the queer cases which the doctors have to handle. Not only patients, but also inquisitive relatives have to be dealt with. Rahul makes umpteen attempts and asks Juhi to forgive him. At last, an exasperated Rahul threatens to jump of the hospital terrace. Is this just a threat or will Rahul really commit suicide for such trivial issues.
