Young officers arrive at the Commando School. Old friends meet. Abhimanyu Rai (Shahrukh Khan) is one of them. The General gives a pep talk. Major Narayanan (A Kanan) gets tough. A 2-mile race brings buddies closer. Vikram Rai (Rakesh Sharma) beats up the three of them and Abhi confesses Vikram is his elder brother.

In a flash back, the brothers quarrel. Father deliberately loses a chess match so that Abhi can also join the army. Kiran the General’s daughter interviews Vikram while during a parachute landing show. Madhu the doctor falls into Abhi’s lap.

Abhi brings flowers for Madhu but hands them over to Mrs. Basu, whose husband screams in anger. Vikram punishes them for indiscipline during training. Umesh, the civilian newspaper chief teases Vikram. Abhi and Madhu come closer on the dance floor as Cynthia makes a surprise visit. Peter faints.

Cynthia is smuggled into the bachelor quarters. Abhi calls on Madhu. Vikram recalls the horror of war during training. He relates the incident in a flash back to Kiran, of how he, as an engineer officer, accompanied an infantry unit in a surprise raid on an enemy bridge where a severe fight was in progress. In the fight Kalyan Singh had sacrificed his life for saving Vikram. Vikram breaks down.

The flash back continues as Vikram visits Kalyan Singh’s parents and the young widow and returns completely shaken. Vikram decides against getting married. Major Narayanan grills Peter and Dev about Cynthia. Peter is dismissed from the course. Kishore the soldier has a serious altercation with Parvati’s father, asking for her hand.

At the club the friends miss Peter. Major Narayanan cheers Dev. Vikram is a terror at the training…. orders Abhi to stand under the Sun until further instructions. Vikram rushes to the training ground. Abhi has somehow managed to bear the punishment. Vikram orders him to stand at ease and Abhi collapses in Madhu’s lap.

Parachute training and rock-climbing are in progress. Abhi saves his buddy from falling. Umesh challenges Vikram to a squash match. Vikram drops in with sweets. Kiran pleads with Vikram to help Kishore. Kiran crashes her scooter.

Kiran is hospitalized .Requires blood and Abhi comes forward with it. Kiran gets operated, and is safe. Vikram brings flowers. Madhu bandages Abhi. A commando exercise and Abhi surprises the instructor, while Varun stares at a Cobra.

Kiran recovers, teases Madhu. Parachute training in progress, Yasin promises to help Kishore with Parvati’s father whom he finally convinces. Sten firing practice is on. The general talks about an impending war. Kishore and Parvati get married as sirens of war shrill with horror.

The General briefs about the war. Vikram asks for a posting in the forward area. Kishore parts from Parvati. War scenes….sand model discussions. Asha pleads with Vikram to be relieved. The raiding party takes off.

The parachute drops. Abhi briefs the party. The enemy dump is examined and a plan is made. Divisionary attack and placing of bombs are planned. Kiran moves to forward area as a war correspondent. There is an explosion in the enemy dump.

The Soldiers run, as a very determined enemy tries to hunt them down. Skirmish in which Yasin gets wounded. The General is worried about the missing soldiers. Yasin stays back to foil the enemy and dies. Abhi salutes Yasin.

The evening catches up with them. Abhi is attacked with bullets. He plunges into the river below. Abhi is rushed to the hospital. Kiran donates blood to save Abhi. Yasin is remembered. Awards are presented. Varun makes a surprise and welcome appearance. The young officers smile.
