Sorna Regai

The study of horoscope, palmistry, face-reading and crystal gazing has always been an enigma. The opinion on them has been divided - while some believe in this study, the others do not. The serial 'Sorna Regai' is about futuristic predictions of Bhaskar Das, a research scholar in palmistry. He predicts a long life of ninety years to a convict about to be hanged in two days. Anwar, an honest and upright police officer, does not believe in Bhaskar Das's prediction. Lingam, the younger brother of Bhaskar Das, runs his life based on his predictions. His wife, Kamalam, is pregnant. There are some others like jailor Perumal, Chettiar and his daughter Manga who believe in his predictions. The episodes leave the viewers oscillating between belief and disbelief.

Lingam, a theatre operator, is seen asking his boss for Rs. 1,000 as advance to start a distribution business. Anwar, a policeman, goes to Manga's house and enquires the whereabouts of some hiden gold. Manga treats him with scant respect. Anwar visits the prison where he meets Bhaskar Das, a research scholar in palmistry. Das predicts that the convict Mani Ratnam, about to be hanged in two days, will not die as he has a life span of 90 years.

As both Anwar and the jailor, Perumal, do not believe Das, he predicts Perumal's life accurately. Both are dumbstruck and confused at the same time! Das leaves the place abruptly and Anwar follows him. What Das says about Perumal, is too shocking for Anwar.

Before tightening the noose around Mani Ratnam's neck, Anwar wants to know where he has hidden the robbed gold worth Rs. 2 crores. Mani Ratnam wants to make his confession before the priest before his death. Perumal makes the necessary arrangements for it. Who is this priest who comes to meet Mani Ratnam?

In Chennai, Lingam comes home late at night. He seems to be too scared, as though he has had a premonition of something amiss taking place. He finds Muni Ratnam in his house. Does this mean that Das' predictions were true? Muni Ratnam threatens Lingam to keep quiet and cooperate with him, or face dire consequences. Lingam's pregnant wife Kamalam swoons on seeing all the happenings.

Lingam pleads with Muni Ratnam to leave his place.A person named Pazhani is seen giving information about Anwar's movements to someone from a public booth. Anwar goes to Manga's house and finds the house ransacked. In the prison, Anwar sees signs of a pistol being hidden in the Bible. Perumal's body is being taken away and Anwar is stupefied remembering Das' predictions.

Anwar reaches Lingam's house as it is near the railway track. He suspects that Ratnam might try to run away using one of the trains. Here he interrogates Lingam. Lingam is too scared to say anything. Sniffer dogs are used to trace Ratnam. Bhaskar comes to Lingam's house to stay for a few days. The real father Anthony Raaj is interrogated. Anwar feels that there is another gang operating against Ratnam.

Lingam's family is not allowed to move out of the house by Ratnam. Lingam is concerned that he may lose his job. Thirunavukkuarasu comes to Chettiar's house with his mother with a view to matrimony. His mother demands 200 sovereigns of gold. Chettiar pleads his helplessness. Ratnam's friends Kumar and Uruli abduct Manga and gag and tie her up in a car.

Anwar wants to leave no stone unturned in trying to trace Ratnam. He goes to a motor garage in search of Ratnam. Ratnam is worried about Lingam not having returned. He threatens to kill Kamalam in case Lingam does not return. Anwar receives a threatening note, warning him to drop the case.

Anwar is still skeptical of the predictions. Lingam walks in with a bandage. Pazhani is again seen giving infromation to someone over the phone. Ratnam is worried that his people have not contacted him even after two days. Das volunteers to help him. Slowly, Das wins the confidence of Ratnam and predicts his personality and his future. Das also gives an idea to Ratnam to come out of the present situation he is in.

The doctor is called in to treat Anwar's father after his paralytic attack. From his gibberings, he seems to be having a lot of remorse. Anwar confesses to the doctor about his disturbing dreams. The doctor advices him to meet a psychiatrist. Thiru comes to Meenakshi's house and gives her some jewels. But her father objects to accepting it and talks very highly of himself.

Das comes to Anwar's house. Anwar's father gets very angry upon seeing him and kicks him. Why? Das advises Anwar to drop the case and stay away from Ratnam. He predicts death for Anwar in case he pursues the case further. Meenakshi confesses her love to Thiru.

This entire episode captures the childhood of Anwar. It throws light on the disturbing dreams that he usually gets. Anwar was ill- treated by his uncle as he had lost both his parents in a mishap. A fortune teller had taken him to his house and brought him up as his own son. The episode also shows Anwar's hatred towards his new born sister..
